Hello and Welcome to
MAYBE THAT’S FOR ME
My name is Paul Rees, and right from the start I want to tell you what I am not…
I am not a college professor. I am not even a college or university graduate for that matter
I am not a Scientist or Doctor (obviously)
I am not the author of a bestselling book
I am not someone to try and impress you with personal accomplishments in order to give you the notion that I am an expert in everything I’ll be presenting
I am not a narcissistic individual who would ever try and insult your intelligence by displaying a picture of myself driving a luxury sports car or showing off my palatial mansion in order for you to think I am a superior being like a lot of so called ‘Gurus’ in the Self Help industry do
Oh, just for clarity, I don’t own either one of those things anyway 🙂
I’ll tell you what I am though…
I am a person who has experienced their fair share of adversity in life and as a result of not dealing with it appropriately, suffered from depression and anxiety for many years. I make a daily effort to improve my life and I now appreciate every day simply by just being on the ‘right side of the grass’
I am an individual who has learnt the importance of how we should write our own life story and not leave it up to anyone else
I am a lifelong examiner of what makes us humans tick. Exploring ideas new and old for ways to not only just cope in this crazy old world, but to thrive
I am someone who cares about others and truly enjoys seeing people become more than they ever thought possible
I am here to help, by presenting as many ideas and strategies as I can for you to cherry pick so you too can create your own BEST LIFE
SO WHAT’S MY DEAL?
One day I woke up and found myself on the wrong side of 45 and realised that I wasn’t the glowing version of myself that I had envisioned when I was a youngster (far from it). The crazy thing is though, as I mentioned, I am a lifelong examiner and I’ve always been seeking ideas, philosophies and strategies that could help me be a better person, not only for myself but for my family and others around me.
To be brutally honest, I didn’t follow through with the majority of things I had learnt that I thought would improve my life when I should have…
I’d come up with all the classic BS excuses for not applying much of anything I learnt. You know…
- I’m too busy
- I’m too stressed
- I’m too tired
- I’m too old
- That’s not for me
I was just hoping that one day all the pieces would fall into place and everything would be okay. Yeah, well that plan didn’t work out too well and it cost me a lot in life.
“Excluding the ‘aware’ minority, most of us are unwittingly drifting through life with no rhyme or reason”
The thought “It’s now or never, you’re not getting any younger” continually nagged me. I knew had to piece together all the things I had learnt that appealed to me with the intention of producing the best years of my life and put them into practice once and for all.
Long story short, I got clear on my intentions, set goals and got to work applying some of the things you’ll find here at MTFM. Admittedly, not everything worked for me but looking back, it never hurt to try and I’m happy to have had the experience and gained some knowledge.
I’m happy to report that, so far, so good with the ideas and strategies that I found were the right fit for me. Good days are now great days and a bad day which isn’t all that frequent, ain’t that bad. Remember the bit about being on the ‘right side of the grass’? I now appreciate even the smallest victories in life.
Nope, I’m not delusional, it’s all about perception.
IS SELF IMPROVEMENT THE KEY TO LIVING YOUR BEST LIFE?
In my honest opinion it truly is, when you can find what works for you and continue to do it you’ll never look back. Remember though, repetition is key!
It’s really a no-brainer to realise that anyone who has succeeded at anything has improved themselves in one or more areas of their life and you don’t have totally reinvent yourself in order to do some form of self improvement (unless you wanted to). You just have to get clear on what you want to improve no matter how big or small, start somewhere and stick to your guns. MTFM is where you can find that place to start
Overall, there is no quick fix or one size fits all approach with anything in the world of Self Improvement, regardless of what the self professed experts tell you. Self Improvement, like anything worthwhile doing in life is an ongoing process if you desire lasting change.
Whatever Self Improvement you do in your life, never view it as a tiresome or unrewarding task. Take an approach of curiosity and openness, discover what works you and keep doing it. Somethings may be challenging at first (all change usually is) but stick with it. The pay off for your determination and actions will be your transformation into the person being and doing what you once thought wasn’t possible.
WHERE TO START?
It blows my mind when I take stock of the amount of Self Improvement/Self Help/Personal Development (choose your flavour) material that I’ve discovered, and I still continue to find more all the time. The challenge I’ve had is that it’s taken me years of research and a never ending process of going down the rabbit hole from one topic, ideology, practice, concept, scientific finding, spiritual discipline, etc. to another to unearth some of the most illuminating and life changing content.
I think most people would find it too taxing (and somewhat boring) to dig up things the way I have, that is why I created this website so the reader (yes, you my friend) can easily find something of interest and dip into an informative and entertaining synopsis of each topic.
Included in the content of the topics will be links to other sites and sources that I found to have the most revealing, authentic, instructive, engaging and (where relevant) up-to-date information available.
TIME TO EXPLORE
Once again I welcome you to Maybe That’s For Me and I hope you bookmark this site and it becomes one of your Go To sources to explore ways to become the person you know deep down you want to be.
If you have any questions or comments, need a hand with something or if you’d like to provide some input please feel free to do so in the comments section in each post and I will be happy to reply.
All the best
Paul
